The Imam Zain Al-Abideen Teaching Hospital, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, announced the successful completion of (18) open-heart surgeries for children suffering from complex congenital defects within one week. The procedures were carried out as part of the medical delegation program, in cooperation with the Iraqi Ministry of Health and with the participation of a specialized Georgian medical team from the European center.

The media officer, Mustafa Al-Moussawi, said in a statement to the official website, “The Imam Zain Al-Abideen Teaching Hospital, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, successfully conducted (18) open-heart surgeries for children with complex congenital defects within one week, as part of the medical delegation program, in cooperation with the Iraqi Ministry of Health and with the participation of a specialized Georgian medical team from the European center.”

He explained that “the hospital continues to achieve a qualitative advancement in pediatric cardiac surgery, having carried out a series of highly precise operations, all of which were successful, while work continues to complete more critical cases during the current month.”

He added that “these operations come within the plans of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, through its health institutions, aimed at providing the best advanced medical services within the country. Cases were selected based on the complexity of the congenital defects, with all technical capabilities and supporting staff made available to ensure the highest standards of safety and success.”

He further noted that “cooperation with the Georgian team present at the European center is not limited to performing surgeries, but also includes the exchange of expertise with local staff and training them on the latest global treatment techniques in pediatric cardiac and thoracic surgery.”

These initiatives come as part of efforts to strengthen integration between local healthcare institutions and international expertise, contributing to the localization of treatment, reducing financial and emotional burdens on citizens, and limiting the need to travel abroad for treatment in such complex cases.
