The Health and Medical Education Authority of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has announced the launch of the Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation program at Al-Thaqalayn Hospital for Cancer Diseases in Basra, as part of a comprehensive strategic plan aimed at qualifying the hospital to obtain the Gold Seal of Approval by 2027.
Dr. Haidar Al-Abadi, head of the authority, told the official website that “the Health and Medical Education Authority of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has launched the JCI international accreditation program at Al-Thaqalayn Hospital for Cancer Diseases in Basra, within an integrated strategic plan designed to prepare the hospital for achieving the Gold Seal of Approval by 2027.”
He explained that “the launch of the JCI accreditation program comes within the framework of enhancing the quality of healthcare services and adopting global best practices in patient safety and medical care.” He noted that “the approved plan includes precise implementation stages covering the development of systems and procedures, as well as building the capacities of medical, nursing, and administrative staff in accordance with international accreditation standards.”
Dr. Al-Abadi added that “the application of JCI standards does not only have a positive impact on the healthcare institution itself, but also contributes to embedding a culture of quality and disseminating it across the provincial healthcare sector.” He pointed out that “staff trained and working under these standards will transfer their expertise and knowledge to other healthcare institutions, thereby improving the overall level of health services.”
He affirmed that “the Health and Medical Education Authority continues to implement its development programs in line with the vision of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine to deliver solid healthcare services based on international standards that ensure patient safety and quality of care.”
The launch of the JCI international accreditation program at Al-Thaqalayn Hospital for Cancer Treatment in Basra reflects the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine’s commitment to establishing an integrated healthcare system founded on global quality and safety standards, and to building robust medical institutions capable of keeping pace with international developments, positively impacting healthcare service delivery and strengthening public confidence in the health sector.
