Iraq Enters Advanced Treatment Manufacturing Era with FDA-Backed Technology Transfer

The Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has announced the start of practical steps to bring cutting-edge technologies for manufacturing high-complexity treatments into Iraq, in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Dr. Haidar Al-Abadi, head of the authority, told the official website that “the Health and Medical Education Authority of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has signed the first agreements to transfer advanced technologies in the field of high-complexity treatment manufacturing to Iraq, which will receive certification from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).”

He explained that “this step lays the foundation for a major project that will elevate Iraq to the ranks of countries producing high-purity treatments، winning the confidence of major institutions such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).”

Al-Abadi added that “these steps represent an important phase within a larger project that will directly support cancer patients.”

He continued, noting that “the core idea of this initiative is to establish a modern industrial city specialized in the production of high-complexity treatments inside Iraq, to be implemented by three major pharmaceutical companies after receiving preliminary approval from the Iraqi government.”

He affirmed that “this achievement marks a historic and unprecedented milestone for Iraq and will move the country into the group of nations that possess such technologies rather than relying solely on importing them.”

This initiative forms part of a broader vision aimed at reducing dependence on foreign imports and supporting patients, particularly those battling cancer, through the creation of a national pharmaceutical production system that meets global standards.
