Imam Hussain Holy Shrine Achieves Major Progress in Housing Project for Low-Income Families in Karbala

The Department of Strategic Projects at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has announced continued progress on the Housing Project for the Poor in Karbala, one of the Shrine’s major service initiatives dedicated to supporting and caring for low-income and disadvantaged families.

Engineer Mohammad Diaa Mohammad, head of the department, told the official website that “the Department of Strategic Projects at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine is continuing its work to complete the Housing Project for the Poor in Karbala, which is among the largest service-driven projects aimed at assisting and supporting impoverished families.”

He explained that “work within the project is advancing at an increasing pace, with finishing works achieving advanced completion rates in both the internal and external aspects of the residential units.” He added that “infrastructure completion has reached advanced stages as well, including heavy sewage networks, rainwater systems, and potable water networks, in addition to the commencement of work on the dual station and the front fence, which forms part of the project’s permanent boundary.”

He continued, noting that “the project covers an area of (150) dunams, with (54) dunams designated for construction, comprising a total of (509) residential houses.” He indicated that “the project includes two construction models: the first with an area of (150) m² and the second with an area of (120) m². Each unit includes two bedrooms, a living room, a guest room, a kitchen, and a sanitary unit.”

He further pointed out that “the project also features green spaces, (4) schools, a daycare center, a kindergarten, a health center, sports fields, recreational areas, and a mosque.”

The Housing Project for the Poor is considered one of the most significant service initiatives undertaken by the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, reflecting its humanitarian and social mission to support underprivileged families and provide dignified housing that fosters stability and strengthens social solidarity.
