As part of its efforts to promote moderation and strengthen the culture of peaceful coexistence, Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, through the Intellectual and Cultural Activities Division in Mosul part of the Religious Affairs Department, discussed with the Universities of Mosul, Al-Hamdaniya, and Tal Afar ways to develop joint cooperation in intellectual, cultural, and academic fields. The initiative aims to confront offensive content and reinforce societal awareness within university communities.
The head of the division, Sheikh Khalil Al-Ulayawi, said in a statement to the official website that “a delegation from the Intellectual and Cultural Activities Division in Mosul, affiliated with the Religious Affairs Department at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, held a series of meetings with the presidencies of the Universities of Mosul, Al-Hamdaniya, and Tal Afar to discuss strengthening joint cooperation and activating intellectual and cultural programs that contribute to consolidating moderation and rejecting hatred.”
He added that “the meetings held with the presidencies of the Universities of Mosul and Al-Hamdaniya addressed mechanisms for appointing academic representatives within the joint committee tasked with monitoring and tracking content offensive to religions and sects in Iraq, which the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has officially approved for establishment.”
He explained that “the committee will include governmental, academic, social, and tribal entities, and will undertake the task of monitoring offensive digital and media content, while responding through the production of sound intellectual and cultural content that contributes to unity and social cohesion, in addition to organizing joint specialized seminars and workshops.”
He pointed out that “this initiative stems from the directives of the Supreme Religious Authority, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Al-Husseini Al-Sistani, which stress the importance of peaceful coexistence, unified discourse, and rejecting all forms of hatred and division,” noting that “the university administrations expressed their readiness to cooperate and activate the scientific and intellectual aspects within the committee’s work.”
In a related context, he stated that “the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, represented by our division, delivered a joint cooperation letter to the University of Tal Afar with the aim of supporting the educational process and enhancing students’ intellectual and cultural activities.”
He added that “the delegation met with the President of the University of Tal Afar, Dr. Aqeel Al-Araji, during which discussions were held regarding the establishment of joint programs and activities between both sides in a way that contributes to developing cultural and intellectual awareness within the university environment.”
The Imam Hussain Holy Shrine reaffirmed its continued commitment to expanding cooperation with academic and cultural institutions in a manner that supports the values of coexistence and social peace, while promoting moderation and dialogue among the components of Iraqi society.
