Engineering and technical teams from the Expansion Projects Department at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine have begun intensive field operations as part of a comprehensive proactive plan aimed at preparing infrastructure to accommodate large numbers of mourners during the holy month of Muharram, particularly those participating in the million-strong “Tuwairij Run” procession.
The head of the Expansion Projects Department, engineer Hussein Ridha Mahdi, said in a statement to the official website that “the engineering and technical staff of the Expansion Projects Department at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine have commenced intensive field operations within an integrated proactive plan designed to prepare infrastructure for receiving large crowds of mourners during the holy month of Muharram, especially participants in the million-strong (Tuwairij Run) procession.”
He explained that “technical teams have started removing the roof of the Al-Aqeela Zainab Courtyard project in preparation for structurally linking it with the roof of the Imam Al-Hasan Al-Mujtaba Courtyard,” noting that “this step is not merely a construction measure, but a strategic bridging process aimed at unifying the spaces and transforming them into a wide, cohesive pathway that will serve as the main route for the million-strong (Tuwairij Run) mourning procession.”
He added that “these efforts were launched under the direct directive of the representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalaei, and are being continuously supervised by the Secretary-General of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, Professor Hassan Rashid Jawad Al-Abayji. They are intended to ensure the smooth flow of crowds and provide the highest safety standards for visitors.”
He further stated that “work is currently progressing at an increasing pace to ensure the readiness of this vital artery before the launch of mourning ceremonies on the tenth of Muharram.”
These works reflect part of the ongoing efforts undertaken by the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine to develop expansion projects, helping to accommodate the growing number of visitors and enhance crowd movement during mass pilgrimage events, within an integrated service system based on the highest engineering and organizational standards.
