Imam Hussain Holy Shrine Introduces (MIBG) Cancer Therapy for the First Time in Iraq

The Warith International Cancer Institute, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, has announced the introduction of specialized (MIBG) therapy for the treatment of complex cases involving widespread cancer, marking the first time this treatment has been used in Iraq.

Deputy Head of the Nuclear Medicine Department, Dr. Farah Mohammed Anwar, told the official website that “the Warith International Cancer Institute, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, is the first institution in Iraq to use specialized (MIBG) therapy for the treatment of complex cases affected by cancer that has spread throughout the body.”

She explained that “this step represents a qualitative achievement and constitutes an important development in the field of nuclear medicine and cancer treatment.”

Dr. Anwar added that “(MIBG) therapy is considered one of the modern and advanced techniques used globally in the treatment of certain types of cancer,” noting that “the introduction of this form of therapy comes within the institute’s plans to localize the latest medical technologies in Iraq and to provide advanced treatment services to patients inside the country. This contributes to reducing the need for travel abroad for treatment and enhances the level of specialized healthcare services.”

The Warith International Cancer Institute, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, continues its efforts to introduce modern technologies and train medical staff in accordance with international standards, with the aim of providing the best possible treatment services to cancer patients through the latest approved medical protocols.
