Imam Hussain Health Authority Graduates 30 Nurses from Iraq’s First Oncology Nursing Program

The Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine announced the graduation of a cohort of (30) male and female nurses after completing the (OCN-Iraq) program, the first specialized oncology nursing program in Iraq.

In a statement obtained by the official website, the authority said, “The Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine announces the graduation of a group of (30) nurses after completing the (OCN-Iraq) program, which is the first specialized oncology nursing program in Iraq.”

The authority explained that “the program lasted ten weeks and combined academic training with practical application in accordance with the latest international standards,” noting that it “was implemented under the supervision of the Warith Academy for Health Leadership, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, in cooperation with Al-Sibtayn International University for Medical Sciences.”

It added that “the (OCN-Iraq) program aims to develop specialized nursing staff in the field of oncology and enhance the quality of healthcare within cancer treatment units,” stressing that “this initiative contributes to raising the level of specialized health services in Iraq and aligns with the vision of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine to support medical education and build national capacities.”

The authority noted that “the program focused on the latest global nursing protocols, clinical safety skills, and comprehensive care for oncology patients,” underscoring “the importance of sustaining such specialized programs to qualify staff capable of meeting the demands of the specialized healthcare sector.”

This program comes as part of a series of strategic initiatives adopted by the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine to develop the healthcare sector and medical education by investing in the training of specialized personnel in line with the latest international standards. It contributes to advancing the level of healthcare in Iraq and strengthening the development of an efficient medical system capable of meeting patients’ needs, particularly in sensitive specialized fields.
