The Secretary-General of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, Hassan Rashid Jawad Al-Abayji, stated that the shrine undertakes numerous activities directly related to citizens’ lives, foremost among them the provision of specialized services through its various institutions. His remarks came during a speech marking the announcement of the formation of the National Council of Experts for Environment, Water, and Agriculture, attended by a number of experts and representatives of specialized research centers.
The Secretary-General said that “the water file is among the most critical and sensitive issues, requiring expert minds capable of developing appropriate solutions and studies, as well as securing water resources, whether through the construction of dams, the utilization of groundwater wells, or exploring all possible means to address this challenge.” He explained that “the primary motivation behind establishing the National Council of Experts is the focus on strategic files, particularly environment, water, and agriculture.”
He noted that “the environmental aspect, especially waste management, is among the issues Iraq suffers from in general, and Karbala Province in particular, as thousands of tons of waste accumulate during the million-visitor pilgrimages. Despite their environmental harm, these waste volumes represent an important economic opportunity through recycling, electricity generation, and their use as raw materials.”
Al-Abayji emphasized that “we place great hopes on the establishment of this council and look forward to achieving positive and sustainable outcomes that serve all segments of society. At the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, we affirm our full support and sponsorship of this direction due to its significant positive impact.”
He added that “the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine carries out numerous activities that directly affect citizens’ lives, foremost among them the axis of specialized services delivered through its various institutions, all driven by a single objective: serving society and achieving the public good.”
