The Imam Ali Holy Shrine in Najaf hosted a cordial meeting that brought together the secretaries-general of Iraq’s holy shrines, including the Hussaini, Kadhimi, Askari, and Abbasi shrines, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen communication, coordination, and unity among the sacred sites.
The delegation was honored to visit the shrine of Imam Ali (peace be upon him), where they were received by Sayyid Issa Al-Kharsan, Secretary-General of the Imam Ali Holy Shrine, along with his deputy and members of the shrine’s board.
A Symbolic Fatherhood and Unity
Speaking to the Shrine’s News Center, Sayyid Al-Kharsan said, “From the sacred courtyard of the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him), we welcomed this honorable gathering of our brothers, the secretaries-general of the holy shrines, in acknowledgment that this blessed shrine holds a fatherly status for all shrines and the lovers of Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them). This meeting embodies the spirit of fraternity and solidarity among the shrine administrators and their servants, and it marks a starting point for elevating the level of service provided to pilgrims across all aspects.”
Unified Vision Under the Supreme Religious Authority
The Secretary-General of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, Hassan Al-Abayaji, emphasized that “the holy shrines represent a unified body and a collective vision under the umbrella of the Supreme Religious Authority in Najaf.” He added that such meetings foster a positive spirit of cooperation and highlight the blessed coordination between the shrines, especially during large-scale pilgrimage seasons.
Upcoming Official Meeting in Kadhimiya
Meanwhile, Dr. Haider Abdul Amir Mahdi, Secretary-General of the Al-Kadhimiya Holy Shrine, expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting that “these gatherings help address core issues affecting Iraqi society and allow for the exchange of ideas to develop strategic plans toward shared objectives.” He also announced that an official meeting of all shrine secretaries-general will be held on October 27 at the Al-Kadhimiya Holy Shrine.
Enhancing Pilgrim Services and Collaboration
The Secretary-General of the Al-Askari Holy Shrine, Dr. Nafiea Jamil, stated that the discussions covered vital topics related to the Islamic and Arab world, stressing that “ongoing coordination among the shrines will contribute to developing operations and improving the quality of services offered to pilgrims and sacred cities.”
The Secretary-General of the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine, Mustafa Murtadha Al-Dhiauddin, highlighted that “the holy shrines serve as a window to the world by receiving millions of visitors year-round.” He underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation to deliver diverse intellectual, cultural, and community services befitting the sanctity of these revered sites.
A Tradition of Cooperation
The Imam Ali Holy Shrine has consistently hosted such periodic gatherings among the secretaries of Iraq’s holy shrines to enhance coordination, elevate pilgrim services, and reinforce collaboration among the sacred sites in service of religion and society.
