27 Billion Dinars in Support for Basra from Imam Hussain Holy Shrine

The Head of the Health and Medical Education Authority at the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain, Dr. Haider Al-Abadi, revealed that the shrine has provided more than 27 billion Iraqi dinars in support to the city of Basra over the past year and a half through its health institutions, Al-Thaqalayn Cancer Treatment Hospital and the Al-Thaqalayn Autism Academy, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare services across Iraq.

Speaking at the second edition of the “Eye on the South” conference, Dr. Al-Abadi stated, “The total value of the support provided by the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain to the city of Basra during the past year and a half exceeded 27 billion dinars through Al-Thaqalayn Hospital for Cancer Treatment and Al-Thaqalayn Autism Academy.”

He explained that “through the Health and Medical Education Authority and the Al-Warith International Foundation for Cancer Treatment, the shrine has worked to develop Iraq’s healthcare system. Its institutions currently provide treatment to nearly 10% of cancer patients in Iraq.”

Dr. Al-Abadi further noted that “the vision of the representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalai, centers on a strategic goal, ensuring that within the next ten years, no Iraqi patient will need to travel abroad for cancer treatment. This will be achieved through the shrine’s specialized programs and pioneering projects in oncology.”

He added that “the Authority is actively expanding international cooperation with leading global medical and educational institutions in the areas of training, skills development, quality assurance, occupational health and safety, and advanced medical data management.”

Dr. Al-Abadi also highlighted that “in recent years, the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain has made remarkable progress in bone marrow transplantation and interventional radiology, in addition to implementing key service projects in Basra as part of a comprehensive support plan. A future expansion strategy is also underway, targeting five additional Iraqi cities to extend medical and humanitarian services nationwide.”

Concluding his remarks, Dr. Al-Abadi emphasized that “the fight against cancer in Iraq is a national responsibility shared by all, government institutions, private organizations, corporations, and individuals alike,” stressing that “nothing is impossible when work is carried out sincerely for the sake of God and under the guidance of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain.”

The “Eye on the South” Conference, now in its second edition, was held in Basra with wide participation from government officials, organizations, and institutions concerned with health, development, and other key sectors.
