Under the direct guidance of the representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalaei, and the supervision of the Secretary-General of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, Mr. Hassan Rashid Al-Abayaji, the shrine’s maintenance teams have launched a series of precautionary measures to ensure the purity and safety of water, protecting both pilgrims and the residents of Karbala.
Engineer Abdul Hassan Mohammed, head of the department, stated that “under the direct direction of Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalaei, representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, and the supervision of Mr. Hassan Rashid Al-Abayaji, Secretary-General of the Imam Hussain Shrine, the department’s teams have begun implementing a range of precautionary measures to guarantee the cleanliness and safety of water for the well-being of pilgrims and Karbala’s residents.”
He explained that “the department has adopted several preventive and technical steps, including increasing chlorine levels in line with standards approved by health authorities, adding formalin as a disinfectant and fungicide at a rate of one liter per 200 liters of water, replacing filters daily at water treatment stations, and applying modern international methods for processing both raw water and desalinated water (R.O).”
He added that “laboratory tests conducted by the Health and Medical Education Authority of the Imam Hussain Shrine have confirmed the water is free of contaminants. Additionally, field technical committees continuously monitor the stations to ensure compliance with approved health standards.”
These measures form part of the Imam Hussain Shrine’s broader policy to strengthen a safe and healthy environment while providing the highest level of service to pilgrims and the people of Karbala.
