Al-Hadi Center for Neuromuscular Disorders, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, has announced the continuation of its monthly clinic dedicated to patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), with the aim of providing comprehensive healthcare that includes medical and psychological support for patients and their families, helping improve their quality of life while implementing the latest treatment protocols and regular patient follow-up.
Speaking to the official website, the center's director, Dr. Saleh Al-Jabri, said that "Al-Hadi Center for Neuromuscular Disorders, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, continues to provide services through its monthly clinic for patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), with the goal of delivering comprehensive care that includes medical and psychological support for patients and their families, improving their quality of life while adopting the latest treatment protocols and conducting regular follow-up."
He explained that "some families face challenges in maintaining their children's medication schedules, whether due to the child's refusal to take treatment or the pressures associated with daily caregiving. This makes follow-up every (6) months essential to strengthening adherence to treatment plans and providing continuous guidance and support to families."
He noted that "since its opening (3) months ago, the clinic has received (65) patients as part of its efforts to provide integrated care and improve the quality of life of patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD)."
He added that "the clinic is the first of its kind in Iraq, placing particular emphasis on the psychological assessment of children and their families to evaluate their adaptation to the disease and improve their mental well-being. It also conducts regular examinations, including physical chest examinations, oxygen saturation measurements, and pulmonary function tests to ensure patients are free from restrictive or obstructive lung disease and to establish the appropriate treatment plan."
He further explained that "regular examinations contribute to the early detection of health problems even before symptoms appear. Recent screening identified a severe elevation in thyroid function in one patient, allowing for prompt intervention. The clinic also provides individualized nutritional consultations to help each patient maintain a healthy weight, support growth, and manage swallowing and feeding difficulties."
These efforts, provided by the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine through Al-Hadi Center for Neuromuscular Disorders, reflect its continued commitment to this humanitarian and medical mission by creating a sustainable and supportive healthcare environment that enables children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy to grow and thrive like any other happy child, which remains the center's highest priority.
