The representative of the Supreme Religious Authority and the legal custodian of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalaei, affirmed that serving Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) is not limited to carrying out official duties, but is fulfilled through practical commitment to the path of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), the performance of religious obligations, and refraining from prohibited acts. He stressed that a person's true rank before Allah is measured by piety and commitment, not by administrative or professional position. His remarks came during a speech delivered at the conclusion of a ceremony honoring those who served pilgrims, attended by the Secretary-General of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, Mr. Hassan Rashid Jawad Al-Abayji, members of the Board of Directors, department heads, and a large gathering of Holy Shrine staff.
The representative of the Supreme Religious Authority said that "gatherings in which the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and his Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) are remembered are attended by angels," citing narrations that describe how such gatherings are honored through the remembrance of the virtues of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), with the effects of that remembrance remaining even after the gathering has concluded.
He explained that "adherence to Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) is an extension of adherence to the Holy Quran," citing the Hadith of Al-Thaqalayn, and emphasizing that guidance is achieved not merely through love, but through following their path and adhering to their teachings, adding that the earth will never be without Allah's proof until the Day of Judgment.
He added that "following the achievement accomplished during the first ten days of Muharram (1448) AH, we extend our appreciation and gratitude first to the Secretary-General of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, Mr. Hassan Rashid Jawad Al-Abayji, the Deputy Secretary-General, members of the Board of Directors, department, division, and unit heads, and all staff members who contributed to the success of the pilgrimage," praising their significant efforts in serving pilgrims, which resulted in distinguished services throughout the blessed pilgrimage days.
The representative of the Supreme Religious Authority stressed "the importance of ensuring that the honor of serving Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) is accompanied by knowledge and commitment," calling on all staff members to regularly attend jurisprudence courses and educational lectures that strengthen their understanding of religious rulings and the teachings of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), because they are the ones most deserving and most obligated to embody these principles in their daily conduct.
He continued by saying that "advancement in administrative responsibilities is based on professional performance, whereas distinction before Allah is determined by obedience and piety," expressing his hope that all staff members of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine would serve as exemplary models of committed believers and continue fulfilling their mission of serving Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) in the best possible manner.
He further noted that "this recognition is presented in appreciation of your efforts, dedication, and hard work during this pilgrimage, through which you successfully fulfilled the responsibilities entrusted to you. However, true honor and higher rank are attained through commitment to fulfilling religious obligations and refraining from prohibited acts. Therefore, we hope that you will reflect the character of a faithful and devout believer, continue to provide even better service during future pilgrimages, and remain steadfast in the honor of serving Imam Hussein (peace be upon him)."
