Al-Zahraa University for Women, affiliated with the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, achieved a new academic milestone after securing the (296) global ranking in the (WURI 2026) classification for university innovation, placing it among the world’s leading universities in a step that reflects its growing academic standing and expanding international presence.
University President Dr. Zainab Al-Sultani said in a statement to the official website that “Al-Zahraa University for Women, affiliated with the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, achieved a new academic accomplishment after obtaining the (296) global ranking in the (WURI 2026) classification for university innovation, securing its place among the top (500) universities worldwide, in a step that reflects its growing academic status and increasing international presence.”
She explained that “this achievement came as a result of the combined efforts and continuous work of the teaching and administrative staff,” expressing her pride in “the international recognition achieved, which reflects the level of determination and development witnessed by the university,” noting that “this accomplishment represents the beginning of a new stage of progress toward achieving even higher rankings.”
She added that “the University of Babylon ranked first locally among Iraqi universities in the (WURI 2026) classification, followed by the University of Basra, while Al-Zahraa University for Women achieved third place in Iraq and ranked first among private universities.”
She continued that “this classification is considered one of the world’s leading university rankings, as it measures the real societal impact of educational institutions by evaluating innovation, entrepreneurship, and education adapted to future requirements, rather than relying solely on traditional scientific research and academic publishing indicators.”
She pointed out that “the (World’s Universities with Real Impact) classification grants internationally recognized academic credibility to universities ranked within it because of its standards that focus on university effectiveness and its real role in driving societal change and developing the educational and research environment.”
She emphasized that “this progress represents a major leap that strengthens the university’s regional and international presence and opens broader horizons for academic and research partnerships with global universities and educational institutions, in addition to supporting efforts to attract scientific talent and enhancing students’ confidence in its educational outcomes.”
