The Warith International Cancer Institute, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, has announced the successful completion of the first robotic surgical procedure in Iraq.
Speaking to the official website, robotic surgery specialist Dr. Rabee Hanna stated that “the Warith International Cancer Institute, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, successfully performed the first robotic surgery for endometrial cancer, including the removal of lymph nodes in the pelvis and abdomen.”
He explained that “the procedure followed the foundation’s announcement of introducing the first specialized robotic surgery device in Iraq, within an internationally accredited system, ensuring the delivery of high-quality medical services in accordance with global standards.”
He added that “this operation represents a qualitative leap in the field of oncology treatment, as it is the first device of its kind to be introduced into Iraq.”
He further noted that “the Warith Institute is working to expand the use of this advanced technology and to provide training courses for surgeons in robotic surgery, with the aim of enhancing healthcare standards and delivering the best possible services to Iraqi citizens.”
This milestone comes as part of the ongoing efforts of the Warith International Foundation for Cancer Treatment, affiliated with the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, to localize advanced medical treatment within the country and reduce the need for patients to travel outside Iraq for complex surgical procedures.
