Imam Hussain Holy Shrine Signs Deals to Bring Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing to Iraq

The Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has announced the signing of contracts with a number of reputable international companies to transfer biopharmaceutical manufacturing technologies to Iraq. The move comes as a preliminary step toward establishing an advanced city specialized in the production of modern medicines within the country.

In a statement obtained by the official website, the authority said that “the Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has signed contracts with a group of reputable international companies to transfer biopharmaceutical manufacturing technologies to Iraq, as a prelude to establishing an advanced city dedicated to the production of modern medicines inside the country.”

The statement explained that “this step follows the completion of all official approvals from the relevant countries for the transfer of these advanced pharmaceutical industries to Iraq, within a strategic vision aimed at strengthening national drug security and reducing reliance on foreign imports.”

It added that “the project includes the establishment of an integrated pharmaceutical industrial city that will adopt the latest global technologies in the production of biopharmaceuticals, including treatments for chronic and complex diseases, with a focus on knowledge and technology transfer and the training of Iraqi personnel in accordance with international standards.”

The statement continued that “this initiative represents a qualitative shift in Iraq’s pharmaceutical industry and contributes to the development of the healthcare system, the strengthening of scientific research and medical education capabilities, as well as the creation of specialized employment opportunities and support for the national economy.”

The Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine continues to implement major strategic projects aimed at localizing advanced pharmaceutical industries and transferring modern knowledge and technology into Iraq, thereby enhancing national drug security and advancing the healthcare and medical education sectors.
