The Health and Medical Education Authority of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has announced the introduction of advanced British technology (SGRT – Vision RT) for cancer treatment. The system has been installed at the Warith International Oncology Center in Karbala and Al-Thaqalayn Specialty Hospital in Basra, marking a groundbreaking step and the first of its kind in Iraq.
Dr. Haider Al-Abadi, Head of the Health and Medical Education Authority, stated that “the introduction of SGRT – Vision RT represents a qualitative leap in the field of radiotherapy in Iraq. This step will enhance treatment precision, reduce side effects, and ensure greater comfort and safety for patients, placing our medical institutions comparable to leading international centers.”
He added, “This technology allows continuous monitoring of patient movement and immediately halts radiation if any unintended motion occurs. This protects healthy organs, provides safer and more comfortable treatment for patients, and gives doctors greater ability to deliver accurate and secure radiotherapy.”
Al-Abadi emphasized that “through this initiative, the Health and Medical Education Authority of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine reaffirms its commitment to adopting the latest global medical innovations and fulfilling its mission of compassion and knowledge, strengthening Karbala’s position as a leading hub for specialized medical care in Iraq.”
