In a strategic step to enhance the technical skills of Iraqi youth and expand the use of clean energy, the Al-Thaqalayn Center for Vocational Training, affiliated with the Technical Education Authority of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, organized a specialized workshop in cooperation with China’s leading solar energy company, Sako, on Saturday, August 23, 2025. The event comes in preparation for the signing of a memorandum of understanding aimed at supporting youth projects and providing technical equipment.
Dr. Hakim Al-Jubouri, Director of the Al-Thaqalayn Center, stated: “The center organized this specialized workshop in collaboration with Sako as part of a program to assess the training capacity of the center and to broaden avenues of cooperation in order to support Iraqi youth and empower them in this vital sector.”
Youth Projects to Boost Solar Energy
Al-Jubouri explained that “the purpose of the workshop was to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the center by the Chinese company, paving the way for a program to support small and medium-sized workshops while providing advanced equipment and technologies in renewable energy to train and qualify young people.”
He added that the memorandum of understanding includes equipping the center with specialized devices, supporting entrepreneurial projects by its graduates, and creating real job opportunities in the private sector, particularly as the Iraqi government pushes to increase reliance on solar energy.
“The center has already trained groups of youth under the Prime Minister’s Entrepreneurship Project, and these partnerships are producing well-trained staff ready for the labor market, which strengthens the success of private projects in renewable energy,” Al-Jubouri noted.
The workshop concluded with a presentation of projects by young trainees, whose skills and readiness to engage in renewable energy initiatives were highly praised. Both sides emphasized the importance of continued technical and training cooperation between the center and the Chinese company, with the support of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, to build a sustainable energy future for Iraq.
The Chinese Company: We Believe in Supporting Iraqi Youth
Ms. Diana Shi, Sales Director at Sako, said: “We are delighted to cooperate with Al-Thaqalayn Center and the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine. We are committed to providing full technical support while training Iraqi youth in the professional installation of solar energy systems.”
She pointed out that “the company has more than 600 employees and 15 maintenance centers worldwide, including one in Baghdad. Iraq is a promising market for renewable energy projects, and this cooperation with the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine reflects our strong confidence in the potential of this partnership to achieve meaningful social impact.”
