The Engineering and Technical Projects Department at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has announced the resumption of work on the first phase of the Imam Hassan (peace be upon him) Courtyard project, which represents the second stage of the major expansion of the Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) shrine.
Head of the department, Engineer Hussein Redha Mahdi, told the official website that “the Imam Hassan Courtyard is being constructed on a land area of approximately 32,000 m², with a total building area reaching 100,000 m².” He explained that “the construction will extend to depths of up to 15 meters below ground, with two basement levels, and in some sections three, all dedicated to serving the visitors of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him).”
He added that “the engineering and technical teams have resumed work on the project, which is being implemented according to the latest technical standards and architectural designs, with the aim of establishing a new structural and service landmark prepared to host religious rituals and serve pilgrims in the near future.”
It is noteworthy that the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has undertaken the expansion works in four stages: the first being the Courtyard of Lady Zainab (peace be upon her), followed by the Courtyard of Imam Hassan (peace be upon him), then the Courtyard of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family), and finally the Courtyard of Imam Al-Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance). This expansion represents the largest in the modern history of the sacred shrine.
