Dr. Haider Hamza Al-Abadi, Head of the Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, stated that the international accreditation obtained by the Shrine’s hospitals from the Joint Commission International (JCI) is not simply a certificate to be displayed, but rather a “bright milestone” in the path of these institutions. His remarks came during the ceremony marking the achievement of international JCI accreditation by the Warith International Foundation for Oncology Treatment, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, in the presence of a representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, the Secretary-General of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, and a number of board members.
Dr. Al-Abadi said, “At this time, we are gathering at a historic moment, not only for us, but for Iraq and the entire region. The attainment of international accreditation from the Joint Commission International (JCI) by the hospitals of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine is not merely a certificate we hang on the walls; it is a bright milestone in our journey and the culmination of years of continuous work, steadfast determination, and a firm belief that our patients and our community deserve nothing but the very best.”
He explained that “the most important meaning of this bright milestone is our firm commitment to global standards. This accreditation is a clear declaration to the world that Iraq is capable of delivering health and medical education services that compete with the best international centers,” noting that “this achievement proves that challenges do not halt determination, and that we are capable of raising the ceiling of quality to the highest levels.”
He added, “Every standard of JCI is fundamentally centered on patient safety and well-being, improving the patient experience, and qualifying medical, nursing, and administrative staff. Above all, this accreditation is a message of reassurance to the community that your health is in safe hands, governed by the highest levels of safety and professionalism.”
He continued, “We have transformed our internal work culture and have become an institution based on evidence, continuous review, process improvement, and outcome measurement. We no longer operate in a traditional manner; rather, we have become an institution that learns and evolves every day.”
He went on to say that “this achievement is a source of pride for every Iraqi and a practical embodiment of the slogan ‘Serving Humanity,’ upheld by the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine. It demonstrates that religious institutions can be at the forefront of scientific and administrative advancement without separating faith from progress.”
He concluded by emphasizing that “this achievement is a point of departure, not a final destination. I assure you that this accreditation is not the finish line, but the beginning of a new and more challenging phase. We will continue working to maintain and further develop these standards, seek to spread a culture of quality across our other health institutions, and aspire to become a regional center for training and excellence in medical education.”
