The External Services Affairs Department of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has begun implementing a range of proactive services and operational measures across major streets and entrances leading to the Holy Husayni Shrine, in preparation for receiving the large numbers of visitors arriving in Karbala to commemorate the Day of Ashura.
Speaking to the official website, the department’s deputy head, Mr. Laith Abdullah Khamas, said that "based on the directives of the representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalaei, the External Services Affairs Department has begun preparing and distributing mobile sanitation units at the entrances to the Old City and along major streets, in addition to fully equipping and rehabilitating fixed service locations to serve visitors arriving in Karbala to commemorate the Day of Ashura."
He explained that "the service plan includes the provision of potable drinking water and processed water through tanker vehicles, which are distributed to all locations and departments of the Holy Shrine, in addition to supporting Husayni organizations, mourning processions, and external service sites."
He noted that "ice is being distributed continuously to all of these locations due to the noticeable rise in temperatures during this period."
He added that "the department has completed carpeting the Holy Husayni Sanctuary, which has been designated as a place for visitors to rest, stay overnight, and perform visitation rituals and prayers. The department has also established additional temporary luggage storage cabins to support the fixed facilities, helping reduce congestion and facilitate visitor movement."
He continued that "our work has not been limited to direct service operations. Specialized vehicles and towing units have been deployed to address any blockages in water networks within the Old City and remove wastewater, while waste collection trucks have also been deployed to remove rubbish on an ongoing basis and transport it to designated disposal sites.
He pointed out that "the department’s personnel have been working around the clock, (24) hours a day, from the first day of Muharram until after the tenth day, with efforts including intensive sweeping, washing, cleaning, and fragrancing of floors and walls to provide the best possible services for visitors."
