The Nuclear Medicine Department at Warith International Cancer Institute, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority at Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, announced a significant medical achievement in saving the life of a patient from Nineveh Governorate through the application of an advanced treatment protocol based on highly precise targeted nuclear techniques.
The head of the department, Dr. Ayser Najih Al-Fatlawi, said in a statement to the official website that “the Nuclear Medicine Department at Warith International Cancer Institute, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, succeeded in achieving a specialized medical accomplishment that contributed to saving the life of a 65-year-old patient from Nineveh Governorate.”
He explained that “the patient was suffering from an advanced and resistant stage of metastatic prostate cancer, but was saved through the implementation of an advanced treatment protocol based on highly precise targeted nuclear technologies.”
He added that “advanced clinical and radiological examinations (PET/CT) revealed widespread cancer cell metastasis in the lymph nodes distributed across four major anatomical regions of the body, including the chest, abdomen, pelvis, and neck, in addition to a high prostate tumor marker (PSA) reading of (45).”
He continued that “the patient had previously undergone (3) conventional treatment pathways, including hormonal, chemotherapy, and radiation therapies, without achieving the desired clinical response due to the disease’s resistance, which required intervention through the advanced nuclear treatment option represented by targeted lutetium therapy (Lu-177 PSMA), which is based on directly and effectively targeting protein receptors specific to the affected cells.”
He further stated that “the treatment plan, which consisted of (6) precise doses, achieved exceptional laboratory and radiological results. Gamma Camera examinations showed tumor regression and near disappearance from the (4) affected regions, alongside a sharp and ideal decline in the (PSA) index from (45) to (0.02), which is considered a scientific indicator of the stability of the condition and full clinical recovery.”
It is worth noting that the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, under the guidance of the representative of the Supreme Religious Authority and its legal custodian, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalaei, places significant emphasis on the healthcare sector through the establishment of medical institutions across various Iraqi governorates, in addition to equipping them with the latest international medical devices and technologies to ensure the best treatment and healthcare services for patients from all provinces.
