Warith Surgeons Remove Brain Hematoma While Patient Remains Awake

The Warith International Cancer Institute, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, has announced the successful completion of a specialized and complex surgical procedure by its medical team using the latest medical technologies.

Speaking to the official website, neurosurgery consultant Dr. Basim Saeed Al-Janabi said that "the Warith International Cancer Institute, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, successfully carried out a specialized and complex procedure through its medical team using the latest medical technologies." He explained that "the patient was suffering from a blood-filled cyst located near the brain's speech center, which required a highly precise operation to preserve speech functions and prevent them from being affected during the surgical intervention."

He noted that "the operation was performed on an (18)-year-old young man, during which a brain hematoma was removed while the patient remained fully awake."

He added that "the procedure was conducted in two stages. The first stage involved a catheterization procedure at Al-Hayat Center within Warith Foundation, while the second stage was completed with the patient fully awake and without general anesthesia due to the sensitive location of the blood-filled cyst and its proximity to the speech center."

Al-Janabi explained that "the medical team used the modern (Awake Surgery) technique, which allows continuous monitoring of the patient's speech functions and neurological responses during the operation, contributing to its successful completion without complications."

He confirmed that "the operation was completely successful and that the patient's condition is stable and remains under continuous medical supervision."

These medical achievements come as part of the mission of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine through its healthcare institutions to provide advanced treatment services to citizens by relying on specialized Iraqi and international medical professionals, as well as utilizing the latest medical equipment, technologies, and internationally sourced treatments to help accelerate patient recovery and enhance the quality of healthcare services.
