Imam Zain Al-Abidin Hospital, affiliated with the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, has announced the successful completion of (190) kidney transplant operations, with a success rate exceeding (99%), emphasizing that this achievement has helped restore life to patients and their families.
Speaking to the official website, the hospital’s director, Dr. Abdul Rahman Ismail, said that "Imam Zain Al-Abidin Hospital, affiliated with the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, successfully performed (190) kidney transplant operations with a success rate exceeding (99%)." He noted that "this achievement enabled patients to return to their work, studies, and normal daily lives."
He explained that "kidney transplant procedures are among the most costly medical operations; however, the hospital does not view them from an investment or profit perspective, as the majority of these operations were performed free of charge and with support from the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine." He pointed out that "the Shrine’s slogan has always been and remains ‘Treatment Among Your Family,’ through the provision of advanced specialized centers within Iraq that spare patients the hardship of traveling abroad for treatment."
He added that "kidney transplant patients previously faced significant financial burdens due to their need for repeated dialysis sessions, which placed a strain on both families and the state. Kidney transplant operations have helped alleviate much of this suffering." He noted that "reaching this number is not the end of the journey but rather a motivation to continue developing specialized and advanced medical services."
He further stated that "the kidney transplant operations were performed by Iraqi medical professionals through a specialized surgical team in cooperation with nephrologists and with the participation of various supporting medical specialties, including laboratories, infection control units, nursing, and pharmacy departments, all of which played an effective role in the success of this medical project."
He emphasized that "the hospital continues to provide humanitarian and healthcare services to patients, and that many complex and highly specialized medical treatments for which patients previously had to travel are now available at Imam Zain Al-Abidin Hospital, contributing to the enhancement of healthcare services provided to citizens."
It is worth noting that Imam Zain Al-Abidin Hospital, affiliated with the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, includes a number of advanced medical specialties, including kidney transplantation and liver transplantation, as part of its efforts to provide advanced treatment services within Iraq.
