Al-Karbalaei: The Goal Is Not Recitation Alone, but Living the Quran

The representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalaei, stated that Quranic competitions represent an important opportunity to strengthen connection with the Book of Allah Almighty. His remarks came during a reception for the delegations participating in the International Quranic Week organized by the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine.

The representative of the Supreme Religious Authority said that "Quranic competitions represent an important opportunity to strengthen connection with the Book of Allah Almighty, and that attention to recitation, tajweed, proper Quranic chanting, and memorization is both important and desirable. However, the highest objective remains understanding the Holy Quran, acting upon its teachings, and transforming its guidance into a way of life."

He explained that "the Holy Quran is a book of guidance for humanity and that one of the most important issues it emphasizes is establishing a sense of purpose in life." He noted that "it is essential for individuals to define their goals and follow a clear path based on Quranic values and principles."

He added that "beautiful Quranic voices and proper recitation help attract hearts to the Book of Allah Almighty, but what is more important is attaining purity of the soul, soundness of the heart, and translating Quranic concepts into practical behavior. The Quran is not intended solely for recitation, but for building righteous individuals and a conscious society."

He called for "Quranic competitions to expand in the future to include fields such as interpretation, reflection, understanding, and the practical application of Quranic verses," emphasizing "the importance of guiding participants toward comprehending the meanings of the Holy Quran and embodying them in their daily lives."

He continued by stating that "bringing together reciters and memorizers from various Islamic countries under the dome of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) conveys an important message of strengthening brotherhood and Islamic unity," calling for "greater Quranic cooperation and exchange among Islamic countries in a way that contributes to uniting hearts and minds around shared Quranic values."

He stressed that "continuous attention to Quranic talents, their development, and their support is one of the fundamental pillars of building a conscious Quranic generation, and that it is essential to support memorizers and reciters who have faced difficult circumstances and significant challenges in learning and memorizing the Holy Quran."
