The representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi al-Karbalaei, affirmed the importance of combining academic development with ethical and psychological formation, and the need to instill religious and national awareness among students, alongside enhancing critical thinking skills and scientific analysis. He made these remarks during his reception of first-year students at Al-Sibtain International University for Medical Sciences, affiliated with the Holy Imam Hussain Shrine.
The representative of the Supreme Religious Authority stated that “student development must encompass scientific, psychological, ethical, and social dimensions, with due attention to strengthening critical thinking skills, time management, the effective use of personal abilities, research writing, and the development of practical and clinical skills.”
He added that “academic success should be complemented by success in practical and social life, and that retirement from employment does not mean retirement from life. A student who believes in his mission does not cease giving and serving throughout his life.”
He explained that “students face social, psychological, and economic challenges, as some have difficult financial circumstances. Therefore, our doors are open, and we do not accept that any student be deprived of education due to financial inability. All fees paid return to the students themselves through the development of universities and services, and the Holy Imam Hussain Shrine even adds from its own funds to support students.” He noted that “any student who lacks financial means should come forward, and we will assist them. We do not allow them to abandon their ambitions, as we believe in social solidarity, as reflected in the solidarity fund that supports those in need. All projects of the Holy Imam Hussain Shrine are not investment projects but service projects established to serve you.”
He further stated, “We hope the university will play a role in providing psychological and social care for students, and that the student feels a sense of parental care and support, enabling them to complete their academic journey successfully.”
He also emphasized “the importance of integrating academic development with ethical and psychological formation, the necessity of reinforcing religious and national awareness among students, and the enhancement of critical thinking and scientific analysis skills, without limiting education to mere reception and memorization, in order to prepare students capable of confronting scientific and professional challenges.”
