Secretary-general of the UN commends Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani's wisdom in spreading peace

Mr Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, announced that he had received the message of the supreme religious authority sent by the office of Sayyid Ali Al-Husseini Al-Sistani regarding the crime of burning the Holy Quran in Sweden, stressing his high appreciation for the efforts of the supreme authority.

 

Mr Ahmed Al-Sahaf, the spokesperson for the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a statement: "Mr Fouad Hussein, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, received on June 30, 2023, a phone call from his eminence, Antonio Guterres, and during the call, they discussed the slur of the Holy Quran, which has been burned by an Iraqi man who lives in Sweden on June 28, 2023."

 

Through that, Mr Guterres confirmed that he had followed the case with great attention and the reactions in Iraq and other Islamic countries, expressing his condemnation of this heinous act.

 

Guterres stressed, "We need to put hands together to confront the Islamophobia phenomenon, and added, We got the letter of his eminence, Sayyid Ali al-Sistani, the supreme religious authority, and I highly appreciate his efforts, and I will prepare a response message in this regard."

 

In his role, the supreme religious authority, His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani, condemned the crime of burning the Holy Qur’an that took place in Sweden, calling on the UN to take effective steps to prevent its recurrence.
