Warith International Cancer Institution, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, announced its success in saving the life of a 74-year-old female patient from Karbala Governorate, following a severe acute stroke that almost cost her life or caused her a permanent disability.
In a statement obtained by the (Official Website), the foundation said that "the patient arrived at the hospital suffering from a complete blockage at the origin of the right middle cerebral artery as a result of an acute blood clot. This is one of the dangerous arterial blockages that could lead to damage in extensive parts of the brain and directly threaten the patient's life if urgent intervention is not performed."
The statement explained that "immediately upon the patient's arrival, the medical and specialized staff mobilized their efforts and diagnosed the condition with high accuracy within a few minutes. The team transferred the patient directly to the operating room, given that the time factor in brain strokes is the primary boundary between life and permanent disability."
It added that "an emergency therapeutic cerebral catheterization procedure was performed on the patient to aspirate the clot, as the staff succeeded in opening the completely blocked artery and restoring blood flow and circulation to the affected parts of the brain in a record time that did not exceed one hour from the start of the medical intervention, using the latest technologies."
These successive medical achievements come as part of the continuous support provided by the General Secretariat of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine and the equipping of its affiliated hospitals and institutions with the latest international medical technologies and equipment, alongside supplying them with qualified staff capable of handling the most critical cases, providing integrated healthcare for citizens from various Iraqi governorates.
