Ashura Plan Successfully Facilitates Millions of Mourners in Karbala

The General Secretariat of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has announced the successful implementation of its plan for the Ashura commemorations, which was supervised and monitored in the field by the representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalaei, and the Secretary-General of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, Mr. Hassan Rashid Jawad Al-Abayji. The participation of all departments of the Holy Shrine contributed to the smooth movement of millions of mourners during the Tuwairij Run mourning procession.

In an official statement, the General Secretariat said, "By the will, grace, and protection of Almighty God, we announce the success of this year's Ashura plan," explaining that "the plan was distinguished by its high level of flexibility and reliance on specialized personnel who underwent advanced training, enabling them to manage the arrival of millions of mourners smoothly, without recording any cases of confusion, stampedes, or suffocation."

The statement added that "the administration of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine began preparing a comprehensive plan several months ago to ensure the success of the Tuwairij Run mourning procession, under the direct supervision and continuous field monitoring of the representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalaei, and the Secretary-General of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, Mr. Hassan Rashid Jawad Al-Abayji."

It noted that "engineering efforts were intensified, with work continuing around the clock (24) hours a day to expand the passageways leading to Bab Al-Qibla of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) by roofing the courtyard of Imam Hassan and completing advanced stages of the project."

The statement stressed that "the success of the plan was not limited to organizing the Tuwairij Run, despite its significance, but extended to all Ashura commemorations, which began on the eve of the first of Muharram with the raising of the black banner of mourning and will continue until the thirteenth of Muharram, the anniversary of the burial of the pure bodies, after which preparations for the Arbaeen pilgrimage will begin immediately."

It explained that "the plan extended beyond security and organizational measures to include extensive service and healthcare components, including the provision of cold drinking water, the preparation of designated rest areas for visitors, the installation of fog cannons and mist fans that helped reduce temperatures, the implementation of a comprehensive medical plan, the preparation of the Imam Hussein Guest House to provide meals for visitors, and a wide range of additional services."

The statement also noted that "this year's Ashura commemorations witnessed broad participation from mourners and visitors arriving from inside and outside Iraq," emphasizing that "the commemorations, which continued around the clock (24) hours a day inside the Holy Husayni Shrine, proceeded smoothly, while the Tuwairij Run mourning procession was exceptionally well organized, with no cases of stampedes or suffocation recorded despite the significant rise in temperatures."

The General Secretariat concluded its statement by extending "its highest appreciation, gratitude, and thanks to all those who contributed to the success of the pilgrimage commemorations, foremost among them the administrations of the Imam Hussain and Al-Abbas Holy Shrines, the federal government, the local government, ministries and service departments, security forces of all branches, Husayni mourning processions, media organizations, volunteers, and visitors, in recognition of their significant efforts in ensuring the success of the Ashura commemorations."
