Major Qibla Basement Project Surpasses 75% Completion

Engineering and technical teams continue their work on the Imam Hussain Basement Project, known as the Major Qibla Basement, which connects the Courtyard of Lady Aqila Zaynab with the Courtyard of Imam Hussain. The project is part of the expansion initiatives being implemented by the Imam Hussain Shrine.

The head of the Courtyard of Imam Hussain Expansion Projects Department, engineer Hussein Redha Mahdi, said in a statement to the official website that “work on the Imam Hussain Basement Project, the Major Qibla Basement, which links the Courtyard of Lady Aqila Zaynab with the Courtyard of Imam Hussain, is progressing steadily and in accordance with approved timelines, while adhering to high technical and engineering standards that ensure safety and precision in execution.”

He clarified that “the completion rate of the basement has exceeded 75 percent,” noting that “the project is considered one of the vital passageways that will contribute to organizing visitor movement and facilitating smooth flow between the two courtyards, particularly during peak seasons of million-visitor pilgrimages.”

He added that “engineering teams are continuing their work based on well-studied plans, in line with the overall vision of the Imam Hussain Shrine to develop infrastructure and enhance services provided to visitors.”

This project comes within the Imam Hussain Shrine’s broader vision to develop service infrastructure in the surrounding area of the holy shrine, keeping pace with the continuous increase in visitor numbers. It aims to enhance movement flow and achieve the highest levels of safety and comfort, reaffirming the Shrine’s commitment to providing optimal services to visitors.
