The Representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalai, emphasized that Lady Khadija Al-Kubra (peace be upon her) Hospital for Women, affiliated with the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, has succeeded after years of work in consolidating a specialized medical experience for women, and that its success has expanded beyond traditional fields into complex medical domains. He made these remarks during an address delivered on the occasion of the inauguration of the hospital's third expansion, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Holy Shrine.
The Representative of the Supreme Religious Authority stated: "First, I extend my thanks and gratitude to the brothers in the Secretariat-General of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, the hospital administration, and the medical and nursing staff for delivering such a successful experience," explaining that "the establishment of a specialized hospital for women stemmed from the desire to provide a secure environment that respects modesty and chastity, in harmony with natural disposition and Islamic rulings."
He clarified that "the goal of creating the hospital was not limited to offering obstetrics or pediatric services, but rather working to provide diagnostic and therapeutic medical specialties, perform complex operations, and highlight the ability of Iraqi female doctors to enter and succeed in challenging medical fields."
He noted that "at its inception, the project faced hesitation and skepticism from some medical personnel regarding the feasibility of a women's hospital succeeding in complex medical fields. However, confidence in the ability of female staff to achieve success was present, and what has been accomplished over the past years has reinforced this trust among both the hospital administration and the community alike."
He added that "the hospital has achieved success across several medical domains, and we seek to attract more female medical talent from within and outside Karbala, as well as encourage female doctors to pursue complex specialties rather than limiting their choices to obstetrics and pediatrics."
He called for "guiding female medical students, as well as female doctors during their residency and training phases, toward complex medical disciplines, thereby contributing to the preparation of female cadres capable of entering these fields and acquiring expertise and skill within them."
He pointed out "the importance of strengthening trust in Allah Almighty and relying on Him, alongside self-confidence, noting that the success of medical personnel is also tied to embracing and supporting talent while providing facilitating conditions for them."
He further remarked: "Among our principles is achieving excellence and uniqueness, and working to elevate the hospital to advanced levels. We hope that it expands in the future and achieves accomplishments that mark its presence at the global level, with female medical teams performing advanced surgeries for the first time in the region."
