For the second consecutive year, the Public Relations Department at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has launched a comprehensive program to serve and guide foreign pilgrims arriving to commemorate the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him). The initiative is carried out through specialized multilingual centers aimed at facilitating the performance of the Arbaeen pilgrimage while providing translation services and religious and cultural guidance in a manner that reflects the global nature of the million-strong pilgrimage.
Speaking to the official website, Head of the International Relations Division within the department, Professor Ghaith Al-Hassani, said, “The Public Relations Department at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has, for the second consecutive year, launched a comprehensive program to serve and guide foreign pilgrims arriving to commemorate the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) through specialized multilingual centers aimed at facilitating the performance of the Arbaeen pilgrimage and providing translation services and religious and cultural guidance in a manner that reflects the global nature of the million-strong pilgrimage.”
He explained that “the launch of these centers came under the direction of the Representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalaei, in response to the continuous increase in the number of foreign pilgrims and their need for guidance and assistance, whether related to routes leading to the holy shrines and sacred sites or to answering their religious and cultural inquiries, thereby facilitating their participation in the million-strong pilgrimage.”
He added that “the guidance centers have been distributed across three main locations, including the pilgrim cities affiliated with the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine and the center of Karbala city. They are staffed by specialized guides proficient in several international languages, including English, German, French, Persian, and Urdu, in addition to other languages, in cooperation with the College of Languages at the University of Baghdad.”
He continued, “the guides provide pilgrims with comprehensive explanations about the history of the holy shrines, the etiquette of pilgrimage, devotional rites, as well as directional guidance and essential services that help foreign pilgrims perform their pilgrimage with ease.”
He noted that “the program also includes a religious awareness and outreach component, coordinated with the religious preachers at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine and scholars of the Hawza in Holy Najaf, with the aim of conveying the religious and cultural message to pilgrims in their native languages and answering various questions and inquiries in a manner that corresponds to their cultural backgrounds.”
He affirmed that “this initiative reflects the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine’s commitment to pilgrims arriving from different countries around the world and contributes to strengthening the global dimension of the Arbaeen pilgrimage while promoting the values of communication and mutual understanding among peoples and cultures amid the spiritual and humanitarian atmosphere witnessed by the holy city of Karbala during the million-strong pilgrimage.”
The Imam Hussain Holy Shrine continues to implement its comprehensive plan for the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) by mobilizing all of its service, medical, engineering, organizational, and media departments and institutions, while deploying its human and logistical resources across the various routes leading to the holy city of Karbala and border crossings. The objective is to provide the best possible services for pilgrims arriving from within Iraq and abroad, facilitating the performance of the pilgrimage rituals and the commemoration of this major annual occasion in a safe and well-organized environment.
