The Maintenance Department at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has announced the completion of the largest site dedicated to accommodating and providing rest facilities for pilgrims commemorating Arbaeen of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him). Covering an area of more than 45,000 square meters, the project is part of the department’s ongoing preparations to receive pilgrims arriving in the holy city of Karbala and provide them with the best possible services.
Speaking to the official website, Head of the Maintenance Department, Engineer Abdul Hassan Mohammed, said, “The Maintenance Department at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has completed the largest site dedicated to accommodating and providing rest facilities for pilgrims commemorating Arbaeen of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him), covering an area of more than 45,000 square meters, as part of its continuous preparations to welcome pilgrims arriving in the holy city of Karbala and provide them with the best possible services.”
He explained that “the site includes more than 45 shaded hangars, each covering 1,000 square meters, in addition to newly installed service tents with a total area of 4,500 square meters. The tents have been equipped with all essential amenities and services, most notably air coolers and other service facilities that help provide a suitable environment for pilgrims to rest.”
He added that “the work also included the rehabilitation and maintenance of more than 60 sanitary units, as well as the installation of 15 additional sanitary units for the service departments, all connected to the main network. In addition, 30 water tanks, each with a capacity of 10,000 liters, were installed and connected to the main supply lines.”
He pointed out that “the department’s staff has also begun equipping and installing more than 400 air coolers distributed throughout the area surrounding the tents, in addition to replacing the main water supply line with a new high-efficiency line to ensure the highest levels of service and comfort for pilgrims.”
He further noted that “the work also included covering open courtyards and exposed areas spanning more than 12,000 square meters to protect pilgrims from direct sunlight, in addition to completing all construction work related to the sanitary units, including door installation and floor casting, ensuring they are fully prepared to receive the expected millions of pilgrims during the blessed Arbaeen pilgrimage.”
He affirmed that “these efforts are part of the comprehensive service plan implemented by the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine to provide an integrated and safe service environment that contributes to the comfort of pilgrims and meets their needs throughout the days of the pilgrimage.”
The Imam Hussain Holy Shrine continues to implement its comprehensive plan for the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) by mobilizing all of its service, medical, engineering, organizational, and media departments and institutions, while deploying its human and logistical resources across various routes leading to the holy city of Karbala and border crossings. The objective is to provide the best possible services for pilgrims arriving from within Iraq and abroad, facilitating the performance of the pilgrimage rituals and the commemoration of this major annual occasion in a safe and well-organized environment.
