Warith International Cancer Institute Receives Second Algerian Child for Retinoblastoma Treatment

Warith International Cancer Institute, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority at Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, has received a second Algerian child suffering from retinoblastoma, following the medical success achieved by the institution in treating the first Algerian case during the previous period.

The head of the authority, Dr. Haider Hamza Al-Abadi, said in a statement to the official website that “Warith International Cancer Institute, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, received a second Algerian child suffering from retinoblastoma after the medical success achieved in treating the first Algerian case inside the institution during the previous period.”

He explained that “the child arrived at the institution to continue the treatment journey after the positive results achieved by the medical teams with the first Algerian case, reflecting the growing level of confidence in the medical and specialized services provided by the institution to patients from inside and outside Iraq.”

He added that “specialized interventional tumor procedures and brain catheterization operations are performed inside the Al-Hayat Center for Interventional Radiology and Brain Catheterization at Warith International Cancer Institute, where more than (200) specialized and complex procedures of this kind have been successfully carried out without direct surgical intervention.”

He continued that “starting this year, the center has become an accredited training center for the Arab Board, dedicated to training doctors on similar complex operations performed inside the brain using modern interventional radiology techniques, with the aim of granting specialist doctors a postdoctoral subspecialty fellowship.”

He pointed out that “this step represents an important scientific and medical advancement at the regional level, with hopes of introducing this specialized field of study in other Arab countries during the coming years.”

It is worth noting that the General Secretariat of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine continues, through its specialized medical institutions, to strengthen its therapeutic and educational services based on the latest medical technologies and specialized personnel, contributing to the provision of advanced patient care and reinforcing Iraq’s position as a medical and scientific center in the region.
