Bayyinah Center Hosts Seminar on Orientalism and Religious Conflict

The Bayyinah Center for Intellectual and Cultural Security, affiliated with the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, organized a discussion seminar titled “The Jewish Question and Orientalism: From Knowledge Production to Igniting Religious War in the Horizon of Armageddon.”

In a statement obtained by the official website, the center said that “the Bayyinah Center for Intellectual and Cultural Security, affiliated with the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, organized a discussion seminar titled ‘The Jewish Question and Orientalism: From Knowledge Production to Igniting Religious War in the Horizon of Armageddon.’”

The statement added that “the seminar addressed an analysis of the intellectual roots of Orientalism and its role in shaping contemporary religious conflicts, with a focus on the ideological dimensions linked to the Armageddon narrative and how Orientalist perspectives are employed in fueling disputes,” noting that “the seminar was presented by researcher and media figure Dr. Naji Al-Fatlawi.”

It continued that “the seminar shed light on the concept of Armageddon and the ideological use of this term in extremist thought, as well as how religious narratives are exploited to legitimize contemporary wars and intensify clashes between civilizations.”

The statement pointed out that “attendees stressed the importance of such seminars in exposing intellectual falsehoods and confronting movements that seek to distort historical and religious facts,” praising “the role of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine in sponsoring dialogue platforms aimed at strengthening society and protecting intellectual and cultural security through presenting solid academic perspectives that dismantle extremist discourse and offer a conscious intellectual alternative that serves social peace.”

It is worth noting that this event comes as part of a series of activities organized by the Bayyinah Center for Intellectual and Cultural Security, affiliated with the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, aimed at promoting intellectual awareness and cultural resilience regarding major controversial issues affecting both the Islamic and global landscape, with active participation from specialists in religious and academic affairs.
