The representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalaei, stated that what may seem impossible can become possible, and what is possible can turn into reality, stressing that there is nothing impossible in Iraq given the country’s capabilities and expertise. His remarks came during a speech marking the opening of the expansion of Imam Al-Mujtaba Hospital for blood diseases and bone marrow transplantation.
Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalaei said, “The management approach of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine is based on establishing distinction, specialization, creativity, and innovation in its hospitals. For example, Imam Al-Mujtaba Hospital focuses on blood diseases, as do Al-Thaqalain Hospital in Basra and the hospitals specializing in cardiology, gastroenterology, and liver transplantation. We aim to create innovation through specialization.”
He explained that “we possess distinction and creativity, as evidenced by the hospital’s performance of both autologous and allogeneic bone marrow transplants, and how these procedures serve as treatment for certain types of cancer. This was once considered impossible by some, but in Iraq, there is no such thing as impossible,” adding, “we follow a firm principle in our work: what is considered impossible can become possible, and what is possible can become reality.”
He continued, “ambition should not stop at a certain limit, but must continue toward achieving higher levels of progress. We hope these institutions will reach the stage of regional excellence, not only within Iraq but also across other hospitals, so that regional distinction is achieved.”
He noted that “one of the key factors of success is combining medical advancement with the humanitarian aspect. The hospital provides advanced treatment services while reducing the financial burden on patients. Surgeries are performed free of charge for children under the age of (15), with discounts and exemptions available for other cases, whereas such procedures previously required significant costs outside Iraq.”
It is worth noting that the newly inaugurated expansion has contributed to improving the level of medical services provided and has increased the hospital’s capacity to (33) transplant units, making it a leader in the Arab world in terms of the quality of specialized services and overall capacity.
