Safir Imam Hussain Hospital Activates Medical Plan for Mid-Sha‘ban Pilgrimage

Safir Imam Hussain Surgical Hospital has announced the commencement of its medical plan for the Mid-Sha‘ban pilgrimage, aimed at providing healthcare services to pilgrims arriving in Karbala.

The hospital’s administrative director, Engineer Abbas Abdul Ali, told the official website that “Safir Imam Hussain Surgical Hospital has begun implementing its plan for the Mid-Sha‘ban pilgrimage,” explaining that “the plan consists of three main pillars. The first pillar involves the Million-Visitor Center, represented by Safir Hospital with a capacity of (100) beds, (4) operating theaters, and emergency wards. In addition, inpatient wards will be converted to receive emergency cases, effectively transforming the hospital into a full emergency facility during the pilgrimage.”

He clarified that “the second pillar includes the opening of a field hospital with a capacity of (60) beds, equipped with the latest devices, supplies, and medications, in the courtyard of Lady Aqila Zainab. This also includes the establishment of two emergency centers within the Husayni courtyard, one for women and one for men, alongside the deployment of fixed and mobile medical units and the distribution of roaming paramedics across key geographic areas.”

He added that “the third pillar covers the evacuation plan and the movement of ambulances, totaling (25) small (electric) and large vehicles,” noting that “the small ambulances will be responsible for evacuating emergency cases to emergency centers, field hospitals, and Safir Hospital, while the hospital’s large ambulances will participate in implementing the medical plan and transferring cases requiring intensive care or surgical intervention beyond the first security perimeter of the Old City.”

He pointed out that “Safir Imam Hussain Hospital, along with all field hospitals, emergency centers, and medical units, has been supplied with life-saving medications and equipment, in addition to being staffed with specialized medical, nursing, and support personnel.”

He continued by stating that “this medical plan will be implemented for the first time through a joint three-party effort involving Safir Imam Hussain Surgical Hospital, the staff of Imam Zain al-Abidin Teaching Hospital, and Sayyida Khadija al-Kubra Specialized Women’s Hospital.”

He noted that “(400) staff members from the hospital will participate in implementing the medical plan, including physicians, nurses, anesthetists, laboratory technicians, pharmacists, technicians, administrative, and service staff, in addition to the participation of (300) volunteers from among distinguished doctors and other medical professionals, as well as a large number of paramedics and support staff, bringing the total number of participants to approximately (900).”

This plan comes as part of the efforts of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine to provide medical and healthcare services to pilgrims arriving from within and outside Iraq to observe the Mid-Sha‘ban pilgrimage rituals in Karbala Governorate.
