The Lady Zainab al-Kubra Specialized Surgical Eye Center, with the support of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, has announced a medical milestone considered the first of its kind in Iraq, after successfully performing an eye surgery in record time.
Dr. Uday Al-Salami, Director of the Center, told the official website that “the Lady Zainab al-Kubra (peace be upon her) Specialized Surgical Eye Center successfully carried out the fastest cataract removal procedure (phaco), completed in just 01:16, while maintaining a high level of precision and achieving outstanding results.” He noted that “this achievement is the first of its kind at the national level in Iraq.”
He explained that “the procedure was performed by Professor Dr. Ghiyath Al-Din Thejil, with the support of the assisting medical staff, using the latest advanced equipment and technologies, which contributed to reducing the operation time and ensuring exceptional accuracy.”
Al-Salami added that “this achievement reflects the center’s leadership in delivering advanced healthcare services to patients arriving from all Iraqi provinces.”
This milestone comes within the framework of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine’s commitment to supporting the healthcare sector and enhancing medical infrastructure by attracting specialized expertise and adopting the latest medical devices and technologies, thereby elevating the standard of healthcare services provided to patients from within Iraq and abroad.
