The Legal Representative of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, Sheikh Abdul-Mahdi Al-Karbalaei, reviewed the mental arithmetic (Soroban) program implemented by the Al-Warith Center for Creativity and Talent Development, part of the Youth Development and Social Rehabilitation Department.
The visit came as part of Sheikh Al-Karbalaei’s ongoing follow-up of the department’s specialized programs, particularly those aimed at strengthening the cognitive and innovative abilities of young learners. According to center officials, the Soroban program receives direct support and patronage from Sheikh Al-Karbalaei.
Ali Zaki Kamel Al-Tamimi, Head of the Youth Development and Social Rehabilitation Department, delivered an in-depth presentation outlining the philosophy, educational goals, and implementation stages of the program, in addition to plans for its advancement in the coming period.
Al-Tamimi also highlighted the outcomes of recent training sessions, noting that the program has become a key component of the department’s vision to nurture young talents and strengthen their mental skills.
Additional insights and statistics were presented by Amir Fareed Abdul-Kadhim, Head of the Training and Program Development Division, along with the specialized team at the center. Program instructor Engineer Mohammed Mowaffaq demonstrated training methods and the advanced levels reached by participating students, underscoring ongoing efforts to enhance their abilities through modern training standards.
The visit included practical evaluations in which students showcased their mental arithmetic skills. Their performance received praise from Sheikh Al-Karbalaei, who commended the noticeable progress demonstrated during the live demonstrations.
Sheikh Al-Karbalaei expressed appreciation for the team’s dedication to developing programs that cultivate emerging talents. He urged continued efforts to provide the required training resources and to update curricula in line with contemporary scientific needs.
He also directed the team to begin preparations for launching a nationwide mental arithmetic competition once program development is complete and the number of trained participants expands, affirming that the Al-Warith Center should serve as a leading platform within the Holy Shrine’s initiatives to foster creativity and build a distinguished generation of gifted students.
