Karbala International Airport Reaches 89% Completion

The General Secretariat of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) has released new figures detailing the overall progress of the Karbala International Airport project and its supporting facilities.

Hassan Rashid Al-Abayechi, Secretary-General of the Holy Shrine, stated that “Karbala International Airport represents Iraq’s strategic gateway for transportation and air navigation, with an overall completion rate of 89%.”

He added that “the visitors’ terminal, designed with world-class architectural standards and visual appeal, has reached a completion rate of 58%,” while progress across the remaining facilities has reached “approximately 95%.”

Al-Abayechi also highlighted the airport’s operational capacity, noting that it is designed to manage 26 aircraft per hour and, at full capacity, will be able to receive around 265 aircraft per day. The facility is built to accommodate the largest aircraft in the world, making it “the largest airport in Iraq, fully equipped to meet all operational requirements.”

He concluded by pointing to the airport’s extensive parking infrastructure, explaining that it includes two major parking areas dedicated to the visitors’ terminal. The main parking hall alone can hold roughly 1,450 vehicles and is fully serviced, featuring notable architectural and aesthetic elements.
