The Strategic Projects Department of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has begun preparing the designs and blueprints for the Integrated Medical City Project in Diwaniyah Province, one of Iraq’s largest and most significant healthcare developments. The project spans an area of 88 dunams and 13 olaks.
The department’s head, Engineer Muhammad Diaa Muhammad, told the official website that “the Strategic Projects Department of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has initiated the design and planning phase for the Integrated Medical City Project in Diwaniyah, one of the country’s major healthcare projects, covering a total area of 88 dunams and 13 olaks.”
He explained that the medical city will consist of two main hospitals, one dedicated to cancer treatment and another serving as a general hospital, which will include departments for obstetrics, surgery, gynecology, and internal medicine.
Muhammad added that the designs have been developed according to the latest international standards in medical planning, focusing on the distribution of departments, ward capacity, and the use of single-patient rooms built to global specifications to ensure comfort and improve infection control measures.
He further noted that the medical city will include state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment departments, equipped with advanced imaging systems, modern laboratories, and specialized facilities for cancer treatment utilizing high-precision technologies.
The project will also feature supporting and service buildings, including residential accommodations for doctors and nursing staff, an electromechanical services building, a prayer hall, public facilities, large green spaces, and ample parking areas to serve both visitors and staff.
Muhammad emphasized that “the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine aims, through this project, to create an integrated medical environment that enhances the quality of healthcare services in Diwaniyah and neighboring provinces, in line with its vision to support Iraq’s healthcare sector through impactful, humanitarian-driven projects.”
This initiative is part of the Holy Shrine’s series of strategic projects designed to advance Iraq’s healthcare infrastructure by establishing modern medical institutions that provide comprehensive treatment services, reflecting its humanitarian mission to care for people and contribute to the country’s sustainable development.
