Millions Commemorate Arbaeen of Imam Hussain in Karbala

Millions of pilgrims from Iraq and around the globe converged on the holy city of Karbala to commemorate the Arbaeen of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him), an event widely recognized as the largest annual human gathering on earth.

In the days leading up to Arbaeen, massive crowds of pilgrims arrived on foot from various provinces and cities, filling Karbala’s streets and squares in an extraordinary demonstration of devotion, solidarity, and endurance.

The city was immersed in an atmosphere of profound faith and solemnity. Hussaini service stations (Mawkibs) stretched along the routes to the two holy shrines, providing food, water, shelter, medical care, and guidance to the pilgrims, completely free of charge, reflecting a spirit of generosity and communal service.

Karbala was draped with mourning banners and black flags, Lit up by lights as the sounds of lamentations, elegies, and Hussaini chants resonated throughout the city. Mourning processions marched through the streets, manifesting steadfast love and loyalty to Imam Hussain and the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them).

Local authorities and service organizations worked tirelessly to manage the unprecedented crowds, ensuring traffic control, security, and smooth operations so that the pilgrimage unfolded in peace and safety.

This year’s Arbaeen saw the participation of pilgrims from dozens of nationalities, carrying a powerful message of sacrifice, resistance, and Muslim unity. Beyond its religious importance, the Arbaeen walk continues to serve as a profound humanitarian and spiritual movement, transcending borders, politics, and sectarian divides.
