It is traditional that millions of pilgrims walk for hundreds of miles to the holy city of Kerbela to make a pilgrimage to Imam Hussein (Peace Be Upon Him), but if thousands of groups of people – who serve pilgrims – move with the pilgrims for hundreds of miles, it is truly phenomenal.
As pilgrims have begun walking to the holy city of Kerbela to commemorate the Arba’een pilgrimage to Imam Hussein (Peace Be Upon Him), thousands of groups of people from the city of Basrah have begun offering free service to the pilgrims. The free services they offer are foods, water, medical assistance, places for the pilgrims to rest in, etc.
A thousand of groups of people – of 3500 groups from Basrah – are moving with the pilgrims, carrying everything pilgrims may need during their pilgrimage. Not only do the free-service groups of people help pilgrims from Iraq, but they also help anyone who comes from other countries.
Furas Hussein, director of a free-service group, said that there are approximately 3 million people in the city of Basrah serving pilgrims while walking.
