The Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine announced the official joining of Warith International Cancer Institute and Al-Mujtaba Hospital for Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation to the global St. Jude Global Alliance, following the signing of a scientific and medical cooperation agreement with the American St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This aims to transfer the latest international treatment protocols in the field of blood cancers and bone marrow transplantation to Iraq.
The Health Authority stated in a press release obtained by the (Official Website) that "this partnership comes after 3 years of continuous work and advanced field results achieved by medical staff in attaining high recovery rates," pointing out that "joining the alliance aims to raise the standard of medical services provided to children with cancer inside the country without the need to travel abroad."
The statement explained that "the agreement includes adopting direct clinical practice guidelines used at St. Jude Hospital, in addition to exchanging modern treatment protocols and expertise, collaborating on fellowship and continuous medical training programs (Fellowship) for Iraqi staff, and supporting joint scientific research in pediatric oncology and hematology specialties."
It added that "St. Jude Hospital possesses over 60 years of experience in research and academic treatment, achieving a cure rate exceeding 80% among its patients, which is the highest globally," emphasizing that "implementing these standards within Holy Karbala will provide Iraqi children with a therapeutic environment that rivals the finest international centers."
The Imam Hussain Holy Shrine continues to develop its health and scientific institutions by establishing international partnerships with major global medical centers, as part of its ongoing vision to provide advanced therapeutic coverage to all citizens and support the health sector in Iraq.
