The Secretariat-General of the Imam Hussein Holy Shrine commemorated the aggressive attack on the Imam Hussein Holy Shrine, by Saddam- the previous tyrant and oppressor ruler of Iraq, in 1991. The deputy Secretary-General of the Imam Hussein Holy Shrine Mr. Afdhel Esh-Shami, said, "On such days, the henchmen of Saddam, aggressively attacked the Imam Hussein Holy Shrine by heavy artilleries and airplanes for 15 days continuously. Many parts of the Holy Shrine were damaged." He also mentioned that they broke into the Holy Shrine, executed some young people, and arrested others.
