Specialized teams from the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at Imam Hussain Holy Shrine have initiated the cataloging, classification, and organization of Al-Mahdawiyya School Library, executing a technical processing and bibliographic organization project for the library's collection—comprising approximately 10,000 volumes—utilizing the Library of Congress Classification (LCC) system.
A representative of the Information Systems Division, Mr. Ali Jawad Abbas, stated in an interview with the Official Site: "Specialized staff from the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs, through the Information Systems and Knowledge Management Division at Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, have commenced the cataloging, classification, and organization of Al-Mahdawiyya School Library. This project entails the technical processing and bibliographic organization of the library's holdings, which total nearly 10,000 volumes, relying on the Library of Congress Classification (LCC) as one of the accredited global standards in academic library management."
He explained that "the cataloging and organizing operations have been ongoing for nearly 45 days, starting with sorting and evaluation procedures as well as categorizing items into specific groups. This included identifying damaged heritage and rare materials to direct them toward restoration and artistic binding, separating multilingual publications, and subjecting the core collection to cataloging, subject analysis, and classification procedures."
He added that "the division's staff adopted a 'cooperative cataloging' approach by utilizing existing bibliographic records from the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine Library, which significantly accelerated the workflow and facilitated the entry of a large volume of book data within a short timeframe."
It is worth noting that the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at Imam Hussain Holy Shrine actively continues to implement specialized initiatives and programs aimed at enhancing the scientific and educational institutions affiliated with the Holy Shrine, elevating their informational and physical infrastructure to align with contemporary practices in library management, cataloging, and archiving.
