The Health and Medical Education Authority at Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has disclosed a comprehensive statistical report detailing the medical and therapeutic services provided across Warith International Cancer Institute, Al-Hassan Al-Mujtaba Hospital for Blood Diseases and Bone Marrow Transplantation, and Al-Thaqalayn Cancer Hospital in Basra Governorate, covering the period from their inception through mid-2026.
The Authority stated in a press release obtained by the official website that "the number of treated individuals across the three hospitals reached 100,701 patients, while total therapeutic visits reached 964,210, alongside recording 362,844 therapeutic sessions and procedures."
It added that "the hospitals conducted 1,970,196 medical examinations, encompassing laboratory and radiological tests, in addition to performing 400 bone marrow transplant procedures, while the number of beneficiaries of free services stood at 31,179 individuals."
It clarified that "these services were delivered across three specialized hospitals, as Warith International Cancer Institute opened in 2021, Al-Hassan Al-Mujtaba (PBUH) Hospital for Blood Diseases and Bone Marrow Transplantation opened in 2022, while Al-Thaqalayn Cancer Hospital in Basra Governorate entered service in 2024."
The Authority noted that "these health institutions worked to supply specialized medical care to patients, particularly those suffering from tumors and blood conditions, utilizing specialized medical and nursing personnel along with modern technologies, thereby contributing to securing treatment opportunities inside Iraq."
This statistical disclosure falls within the scope of the ongoing initiatives undertaken by Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, through its health institutions, to broaden the reach of specialized medical care and alleviate the burdens placed on patients and their families—chiefly through offering a significant portion of services free of charge or at subsidized costs, thereby strengthening access to care within Iraq.
