First Non-Governmental Laboratory of Its Kind in Iraq: Imam Hussain Holy Shrine’s Warith Food and Water Safety Laboratories Earn ISO 17025 Accreditation

Warith Food and Water Safety Laboratories, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, have secured the international standard accreditation (ISO 17025) after fulfilling all quality and accreditation requirements. This achievement makes it the first non-governmental laboratory of its kind in Iraq to attain this certification, and the second laboratory nationwide.

In a statement to the official website, the Head of the Authority, Dr. Haider Hamza Al-Aabedi, said: "Warith Food and Water Safety Laboratories, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, have received the international standard certification (ISO 17025) after completing quality and accreditation requirements, making it the first non-governmental laboratory of its kind in Iraq to receive this certificate, and the second laboratory at the level of Iraq."

He explained that "obtaining the (ISO 17025) certificate came after nearly two years of continuous work by the laboratory staff to meet quality and accreditation requirements, representing a significant step in the field of food and water safety testing."

He added that "Warith Food and Water Safety Laboratories will serve as the nucleus for a broader project in Iraq, contributing to serving society and improving the quality of food and drinking water by providing tests according to international standards and specifications."

He noted that "this achievement reflects the efforts of the personnel working in the laboratory and their keenness to implement the highest quality standards, thereby enhancing the reliability of test results and supporting efforts to raise the level of food and water safety in the country."

The international standard certification (ISO 17025) is considered one of the most prominent approved global standards for evaluating the competence of testing and calibration laboratories, as it is linked to technical competence requirements, quality management systems, and the accuracy and reliability of laboratory testing results.
