The Secretary-General of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, Hassan Rashid Jawad Al-Abayji, affirmed that the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) is one of the world's largest Islamic religious gatherings, attracting global attention. He made the remarks during the Fourth Annual Arbaeen Pilgrimage Conference, organized by the Hussaini Processions and Committees Department at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, in the presence of directors of relevant departments and representatives of Hussaini processions and committees from various Iraqi governorates.
Hassan Rashid Jawad Al-Abayji said, "The months of Muharram and Safar represent an annual opportunity to evaluate the level of performance and the services provided, as the eyes of the world turn to the holy city of Karbala during this occasion, making it essential to deliver the highest possible standard of service to pilgrims."
He explained that "the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine seeks to further improve services, particularly in electricity and water supply, infrastructure, and the organization of processions, while strengthening cooperation and coordination between Hussaini processions, official authorities, and the Imam Hussain and Al-Abbas Holy Shrines, in a way that contributes to the success of the million-strong pilgrimage." He noted that "the key is the unified efforts of all concerned parties to ensure the success of this blessed occasion, especially in organizational and service-related aspects."
He added that "the city of Karbala stands as a model of generosity through the food, accommodation, and water services provided by believers, yet the goal remains to further enhance organizational standards." He called for "avoiding unauthorized use of electricity and water supply networks and protecting the environment, particularly the rivers that serve as the city's primary source of drinking water."
He went on to say that "it is essential to adhere to the guidance of the Supreme Religious Authority regarding the protection of water resources, refrain from dumping waste or slaughter remnants into rivers, and ensure that slaughtering is carried out only at approved sanitary slaughterhouses due to its direct impact on protecting the environment and the health of pilgrims."
He also stressed that "owners of Hussaini processions should cooperate with the relevant authorities, avoid blocking roads or occupying large areas that obstruct the movement of pilgrims, and comply with the instructions issued by the competent authorities to ensure smooth movement and the successful conduct of the pilgrimage."
